Margo Cilker’s new single for Fluff and Gravy Records is a feel-good soul song that will get you heading off for the day with a smile.

You’re waking up from a dream as “Keep it On a Burner” opens with muffled brass. It has the recording feel of one of the large production records that would have been on a department store counter in the 1960s. “I got people, I got places, I got things, I got friends,” Cilker sings. “I got something when there’s nothing coming up from within. I got postcards, I got music, I got someone’s hand to hold, I got whiskey, I got brandy, I got use for this old soul.”

Cilker was raised in the Santa Clara Valley in California and currently lives in Washington.

“Family and nature intertwine as guiding motifs,” Cilker said about sophomore album Valley of Heart’s Delight, and “feeds off of this tension – how we live in and off of nature, how we live within and without family, and why we return to the places we were born.”

The piano melody and heartfelt delivery from Cilker really give this song strength. It has a Bourbon Street feel that bleeds into a hypnotic sway.

“Sometimes I feel it dipping beneath the water line, but I keep it on a burner in the back of my mind. I keep it on a burner in the back of my mind,” Cilker sings.

The song has entered the top twenty on the Americana Music Association charts. The uplifting message should help this single grow organically. Valley of Heart’s Delight is scheduled to be released next week.
