It’s my favorite time of year. The pleasant escape from our familiar Texas summer when all of our friends and family come together to celebrate the birth of our lord Jesus and the new year.

we asked some of our friends and family which albums they love to play this time of year…

Willie Nelson “Pretty Paper”

“My very favorite is Willie Nelson’s Pretty Paper,” My Mom said. “It was his first Christmas album and we originally had the vinyl. We always decorated the Christmas tree to Pretty Paper, a wonderful family tradition.

When I was working my boss game everyone in the office Elvis Presley’s “If Everyday was like Christmas.” I thought that was kind of silly. Elivs had been long gone at that point. But it quickly became my second favorite and we play it every year. I mean who can beat Elvis? Only Willie.”

Vince Guaraldi Trio “A Charlie Brown Christmas”

“A Charlie Brown Christmas,” Ashley Monical said. This classic album by the Vince Guaraldi Trio “feels nostalgic and light and joyful.

”I love Christmas music because it’s the only kind of music that’s listened to for just a portion of the year, so it’s special. The only voices on this album are the kids’, and it’s precious. Always makes me smile.”

Sting “If on a Winters Night”

“One of my faves is Sting “If On a Winter’s Night,” Long Prairie said. “It is folk music, dark and cold, beautifully done!”

John Fahey “The New Possibility”

Blues man Josh Fulero sent over this pick for finest Christmas album. A beautiful work of instrumentals for the folk fans.

Kenny Burrell “Have Yourself a Soulful Little Christmas”

This album was a thrift store find on the Cadet label. It’s surprising from the first track as it heats up in “Little Drummer Boy” and ends with a fiery solo. It really shows off some of Burrell’s talent.

Norah Jones “I Dream of Christmas”

One of the modern classics of the genre that will stand the test of time. Jones presents a fantastic version of “Blue Christmas” and other standards, as well as original works for the album.
