Jonathan Bernstein, Senior Research Editor at Rolling Stone and author of What Do You Do When You’re Lonesome: The Authorized Biography of Justin Townes Earle recently spoke with us about his first full length book.
Learning to Cry
Justin Townes Earle was more than a musician. He was a songwriter that truly changed the direction of modern singer-songwriter music in the days of indie folk. He was one of the few children of famous stars that was able to create something completely unique apart from his legacy.
I was lucky enough to see Earle as he was in a period of sobriety. I was just a wide-eyed aspiring songwriter on a quest to see my hero, and as we stood there just feet away from Earle in his vintage-styled designer outfit, we marveled at the man that seemed larger than life.
It’s hard to put into words how much this man ment to my life, and thankfully Bernstein has done the work for us. It’s a beautiful, yet tragic story of the highs and lows that an artists mind can create.
Support the Artist
We’re extremely grateful that Bernstein took the time to speak with us about someone that simply can’t be allowed to fade away into the ether. Maybe Earl’s music never broke into mainstream success, but the artists that knew his work and witnessed his magic will keep the music alive for generations.
