You’re transported into the studio as you follow the notes left by Brent Cobb in his latest single “Southern Star.”

Notes are scribbled on a page and you see Cobb behind soundproof glass. It reminds us of Peter Jackon’s documentary “Get Back” about the Beatles studio time in 1969. Cobb has achieved a fusion of styles in “Southern Star” as the rhythm of the acoustic guitar and melody of the electric piano come together.

“Under the southern star I heal all of my scars, as cicadas sing, ain’t it the sweetest dream,” Cobb sings. You can really groove to the warm feeling the title track off the album creates.

Brent Cobb Finds an Old School Vibe

Cobb takes a trip down memory lane and says he can always “count on the Southern Star” to give him comfort at the end of the day. I can picture Cobb laying in the grass and stargazing as he strummed a guitar and penned this single.

“Down here, there’s a lot going on and there’s nothing going on at the same time,” Cobb said in an official release about the album. “You’ve got all these different cultures in the south, and everything is mixed in together. Otis Redding and Little Richard were from the same town in Georgia. So were the Allman Brothers. James Brown and Ray Charles grew up right down the road. All these sounds reflect the South itself, and that music has influenced the whole world. It’s definitely influenced mine.”

“Southern Star” really brings together country and soul, and it’s one of those tracks you can put on repeat.

“This album, the songs, the sounds… they’re all a product of where I’m from, both musically and environmentally,” Cobb said. “Historically and presently, that area also happens to be the same place that cultivated a good many of the most influential artists in the whole world of music. Music as we know it would not exist without the American south. It’s funky and sentimental. It’s simple and complex.”
